Summer has ended in Vatnsfjörður. Hotel Flókalundur is now closed for the winter, and we want to thank everyone who visited us this season.
Summer 2026 was a special one for us. This year marks 60 years since work began on a guesthouse and restaurant at the abandoned farm of Hella, by the river Penna, and it meant a great deal to celebrate that milestone with our guests. Some came for the first time, others have returned again and again over the years, and a few even remember the old lodge. Back in 1976, the newspaper Morgunblaðið called Vatnsfjörður the Þingvellir of the Westfjords. We think that still rings true.
The hotel was open from May 1st to September 30th, and the campsite from May 20th to September 15th. Now winter takes over. The birch woods shed their leaves, stillness settles over the fjord, and the house rests until next summer.
We also want to thank our staff, who kept things running all summer long in the kitchen, at reception, in the rooms and at the campsite. They make Flókalundur what it is.
We reopen in spring 2027, on May 1st. You can book next summer here on our website. If you have any questions over the winter, drop us a line at flokalundur@flokalundur.is.
Thank you for a wonderful summer. See you in the spring!
